Women’s traditional knowledge in Lao social enterprise – Weaving mulberry silk into social enterprise
I first heard of the farm from a friend two years ago. It all began when she gave me a bar of soap made from the protein of mulberry-fed silkworm. The soap came neatly packed with the tender silk threads from the yellow cocoon. Its fresh scent refreshed me, it was love at first scent.
“It is made by women in a farm in Xieng Khuang in Laos,” my friend had told me. Finally I was able to visit the farm. This is the story of the farm as I heard it retold by its founder, Ms.Kommaly Chanthavong, and I learned how even a small act done with genuine good intent could result in a big positive impact.
